Gastronomy
Famous wines include Gevrey Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot, Pommard, Volnay and Meursault (don't forget to pick up a Burgundy Wine Board map). The poulet de Bresse, coq au vin, poulet de Meursault, freshwater trout, snails and boeuf bourgignon are all found on regional menus. Round it off with a choice of over 30 cheeses or the local gingerbread.

Places of Interest
In Beaune, stop by the excellent Marché aux Vins tasting cellars and the Hôtel Dieu. Explore provincial capital, Dijon, with its Palais des Ducs and Musée de Beaux Arts or the cathedrals of Sens and Auxerre. Of the many impressive buildings, the picks are the château at Tanlay, Vézelay basilica and the Abbaye de Cluny, once the world's largest church.

Sports and Leisure

Outdoor pursuits include walking, cycling, horse riding and fishing, with lakes where you can canoe, windsurf and swim. Hot-air ballooning can be experienced at Pouilly en Auxois, there are several 18-hole golf courses and most towns have tennis courts. Acroparc and Acroíbath are adventure parks for kids; Touroparc is an amusement park and zoo. Summer sees jazz, classical and blues concerts across the province.

Burgundy gîtes and cottages are easily accessible - take a P&O ferry or a Eurotunnel crossing to Calais and then the motorway via Reims. It is about a 5 hour drive to most of our Burgundy accommodation.

Alternatively, take the Brittany Ferries overnight crossing from Portsmouth to Caen and then the motorway via Paris.
