Walk with the expert
Our friend Peter Habeler has agreed to help us celebrate our 75th anniversary by guiding some walks in and around Mayrhofen. Peter was the first person, along with Reinhold Messner, to climb Everest without using oxygen in 1978. He has scaled many other peaks worldwide since then, including most of them in his home turf of the Ziller valley. We have chosen three very different walks, two in the side valleys of the Ziller valley and one to the top of the Ahorn mountain which dominates Mayrhofen. These walks have been specifically chosen with the Inghams guest in mind. They are of moderate difficulty but the pace will be slow and suitable for all age groups (Peter himself is now in his 67th year).
Saturday: Flight and transfer to Mayrhofen (for our selection of hotels in Mayrhofen.
Sunday: Time at leisure to explore Mayrhofen and maybe do a short walk.
Monday: Your first walk will be with a local guide. Transfer by bus or taxi (extra cost approx. €19) to the Zillergrund dam in the Zillergrund valley. From here the path leads at first alongside the reservoir and then steadily up to the Plauener Hut. There will be time here to admire the views and take on board refreshments before heading back down to the dam and your transport back to Mayrhofen. 1450 – 2364m, approx. 6 hours walking.
Tuesday: Relax for a day or join our scenic tour to Lake Achensee and the glass producing town of Rattenberg.
Wednesday: Your second walk is with Peter and will take you from the Schlegeis reservoir in the Zams valley to the Olperer Hut, providing you with stunning views of the reservoir, the surrounding peaks and over into Italy. After a refreshment stop return to the reservoir and your transport back to Mayrhofen. (Extra costs approx. €24). 1782 – 2389m, approx. 5 hours walking. In the evening meet up with Peter again for a slide show and presentation of medals. You will also receive a photo CD from Peter as well as his autograph.
Thursday: A day to relax or join our trip to the Bavarian city of Munich.
Friday: Your final walk again with Peter begins with a leisurely ride up the Ahorn cable car (€16). From here it is a steady but exhilarating climb to the peak of the Ahorn where superb views of the Ziller valley and all its side valleys awaits you. After a photo stop return to the top of the Ahorn cable car via the Edel hut and ride back down to Mayrhofen. 1955 – 2973m, approx. 6 hours walking. In the evening meet up with Peter again for a slide show and presentation of medals. You will also receive a photo CD from Peter as well as his autograph.
Saturday: Return transfer to the airport or stay on in Mayrhofen or transfer to another resort for asecond week’s walking.
Equipment required: ankle high walking boots, rain protection, suncream, water.
What’s included • 3 guided walks, 2 with Peter Habeler • Slide show and medal presentation • Photo CD and Peter’s autograph.

Classical music in a classical city - £145*
Selected dates: 5 June 2010, 3 July 2010, 7 August 2010
Concerts in Salzburg
Austria is well known for its classical music composers and what better place to enjoy some concerts than the beautiful city of Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart. This programme includes three concerts in three historic settings to give you an unforgettable experience of classical music in Austria.
Saturday: Arrival at Salzburg airport and transfer to your hotel. Our representative will be on hand to meet you and provide information.
Sunday: Classical city tour: a 1½ hour guided minibus tour will show you the main sights of the city and you will be given a 24hour Salzburg Card which entitles you to free entrance to the museums and major sights of the city as well as free travel on the city buses. This evening your first concert in the Stiftskeller St. Peter will include a 3 course dinner. Enjoy the most popular compositions by Mozart by candlelight in the stylish ambiance of the Stiftskeller St. Peter restaurant which dates back to 803AD. Music is played by Salzburg artists in historic costumes as dinner is served, prepared as it was in Mozart's times.
Your days are free to explore Salzburg and its surroundings, or take an excursion outside of the city – we recommend a visit to the stunningly beautiful Salzkammergut, Austria’s lake district, which includes a boat trip and a visit to St. Wolfgang, with its famous hotel the Weisses Roessl, where the composer Ralph Benatzky composed the famous White Horse Inn operetta in 1930.
Wednesday: Your second concert takes place in the Marble Hall of the Mirabell Palace in the new part of the city. Originally built in 1606 but remodelled during the baroque period, the Marble Hall, as the name suggests, is rich in marble masonry and statues and decorated with golden stucco, providing the perfect setting for classical music concerts.
Friday: Your final concert and the highlight of your stay is in the grand setting of the 900 year old Hohensalzburg fortress. First class musicians and prominent soloists perform the works of the great masters of music in the famous Golden Hall. For those who prefer not to walk up to the fortress, the cable car cost from the old town is approx. €4 return.
Saturday: Return transfer to the airport or transfer to one of our nearby resorts for another week.At the time of going to press the exact programmes of the concerts were not finalised. This information will be available in January 2010. The days of the concerts may vary from the above.
What’s included • One dinner concert • Two further concerts • Minibus tour of Salzburg • 24-hour Salzburg card.
*To be added to basic holiday price.
